Foundation, footing, driveway, and site excavation

Site excavation and grading support for foundations, footings, driveways, pads, and concrete-related work where accuracy and sequencing matter.

Excavation follows the project information

Foundation and footing excavation should follow the current drawings, elevations, benchmarks, setbacks, soil information, and direction of the project’s responsible designer or engineer. MSP brings the equipment operation and site discipline; the design team remains responsible for the design decisions.

The Ontario Building Code contains detailed provisions for building work, but the correct field result depends on the actual building design, soil and site conditions, municipal requirements, and inspection process. We do not present a general web page as a substitute for project-specific instructions.

What quality looks like in the field

Quality means protecting the excavation, maintaining usable access, avoiding unnecessary disturbance, separating materials where required, and communicating before an unexpected condition changes the work. It also means leaving the site ready for the next trade rather than only leaving a hole in the ground.

  • Work from current plans and clearly identified benchmarks
  • Coordinate excavation sequence with concrete, forming, and inspection timing
  • Keep spoil, granular, and unsuitable material organized as directed
  • Protect access and maintain a clean, practical work area
  • Flag soil, water, rock, or stability concerns before proceeding

Permits and inspections

Ontario’s building-permit guidance explains that many construction projects require approval before work starts and that municipal building officials enforce the Building Code. The property owner or general contractor should confirm the permit and inspection path with the municipality before mobilization.
