Safe digging starts before the machine arrives
Ontario One Call states that homeowners or contractors must submit a locate request before digging, whether the work is on public or private property. Public locates do not identify every privately owned line, such as some services to detached buildings, pools, signs, security equipment, or septic systems.
MSP will coordinate with the project contact about locate status and site information, but the person responsible for the excavation must make sure the required locates are complete, current, and understood before digging begins.
Trenching support
The excavation scope should identify the route, depth, width, material, access, spoil handling, bedding or backfill requirements, and the party responsible for inspection or utility installation. MSP can execute the machine work and keep the work area organized around those instructions.
- Utility and service trench excavation as directed
- Granular, soil, and spoil handling
- Backfill and rough grading support
- Material haulage with available trailer and flat-deck capability
- Cleanup and preparation for the next trade
When the plan changes
Unexpected lines, groundwater, rock, unstable soil, access restrictions, or conflicting marks should be treated as a coordination issue—not a reason to guess. Pause the affected work, document the condition, and contact the responsible project lead.
